Collaborate – Access – Browse (CAB)
The Collaborate – Access – Browse (CAB) product allows users on a high-security network to have access to applications and files on a lower security network . . . while working from their existing Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) high-side workstations. CTC is the program manager of the team that created CAB for the National Security Agency (NSA).
For example, using CAB, a high-side user at a personal computer linked to a secret-level network can now view information on an unclassified network easily, quickly, and safely. There is no need for the high-side user to move from his or her mission-sensitive environment or infrastructure. CAB allows the use of standard Microsoft Office® Suite Tools including Word®, Excel®, and PowerPoint®. The user can access e-mail using Outlook® and can browse the Internet using Explorer®. Custom applications are possible because CAB allows the use of tools supported by a Microsoft Terminal Server or Citrix Presentation Server, which are converted from the native protocol to a secure, proprietary protocol.
Designed for Long-Term Benefits
CAB will be certified by the Cross Domain Technical Advisory Board (CDTAB)/DISN Security Accreditation Working Group (DSAWG) and will serve as the basis for next-generation cross-domain solution products from the NSA.
Incorporated into the design is an innovative platform for future guard development. The project team built the system so that it can be mass-produced if necessary. Its modular design ensures that, as upgrades and additions are requested, the entire system will not require re-design. Future software can be easily integrated, and, most importantly, CAB is secure and reliable. CAB utilizes plug-and-play component architecture to meet individual user (command) mission needs. Fundamental CAB architecture technology can be utilized in other guard systems, making the product cost-efficient as well as effective.
