CTC Wins $350 Million Competition to Operate the National Defense Center for Environmental Excellence (NDCEE) for Another Five Years

December 5, 2003

Johnstown, PA, December 5, 2003—Daniel R. DeVos, President and CEO of Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) today announced that the Department of Defense (DOD) has awarded CTC a five-year, $350 million contract to operate the National Defense Center for Environmental Excellence (NDCEE). The NDCEE's principle mission is to demonstrate and transition environmental technologies to improve weapon system performance and enhance DOD industrial operations while reducing environmental impacts and associated costs. The DOD Executive Agent for the NDCEE is the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Installations and Environment. The contracting agency is Defense Contract Command-Washington. CTC was selected as the winner under full and open competition involving a number of prominent national firms. CTC's Team also includes two internationally renowned companies, Battelle Memorial Institute and Booz Allen Hamilton, who have committed to opening offices in Johnstown.

Congressman John P. Murtha supported the establishment of the NDCEE in 1991 to address growing concerns regarding the environmental impact of military operations. Today, the NDCEE is involved in a broad spectrum of activities from pollution prevention to international safety issues related to unexploded ordnance. Congressman Murtha announced, "The NDCEE is a lead environmental technology organization for the DOD. The magnitude and scope of this award is indicative of the importance of this program and CTC's emergence as one of the nation's premier environmental organizations. This award preserves 150 jobs at CTC while providing the opportunity to add up to 250 new jobs."

CTC has been working toward this award for over a year. Mr. DeVos stated, "This is the largest award in CTC's 15-year history. Its significance to CTC and the Johnstown community cannot be overstated. CTC's Proposal Manager and his team did a wonderful job. We have put together a world-class team that the DOD selected as 'best value' to address the most pressing environmental issues it will face over the next five years." Jerry Hudson, CTC's cognizant executive for the NDCEE program, said, "The increase in award value from $150 million to $350 million is indicative of the growth in critical environmental issues that the DOD needs to address over the next five years. Recent news stories on DOD-related environmental issues, such as drinking water contaminated with chemicals from explosives, safety issues associated with the destruction of chemical weapons and discovering unexploded ordnance on public land, underline the importance of the NDCEE."

CTC is an independent, nonprofit, applied research and development professional services organization, based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, that provides management and technology-based solutions to a wide array of clients representing state and federal government as well as the private sector. Established in 1988, CTC operates from 34 locations throughout the United States with a staff of over 1,200 employees.
