CTC Tsunami Relief Efforts

January 1, 2005

Contribution Totals Are In

In January 2005, CTC President & CEO, Daniel R. DeVos sent a company-wide e-mail to CTC employees after the Asian tsunami hit, stating that due to the sheer magnitude and scope of the tragedy that CTC would provide an opportunity for employees to donate tax deductible contributions for the victims of the tsunami through the CTC Foundation, a nonprofit affiliate organization of CTC. The results are in. Thanks to the generosity of employees, the CTC Foundation was able to make a contribution to the tsunami relief effort in the amount of $5,500.00.

CTC employees donated a total of $2,310.00 to the American Red Cross and $835.00 to UNICEF. The CTC Foundation made an additional contribution of $1,855.00, split equally between both organizations. Checks and letters were mailed to the American Red Cross for $3,237.50 and UNICEF for $1,762.50. An additional $500.00 check was sent to the organization AmeriCares - Humanitarian Lifeline to the World through the CTC Foundation as was designated by the donor. Of the $5,500.00, 100% went to the tsunami effort.

Howard J. McClintic, Executive Director of the CTC Foundation expressed his gratitude with the collection totals, stating, "I would sincerely like to thank CTC employees for their generous contributions and their humanitarian concern to aid in the tsunami relief effort. The employees really stepped up in this time of need."

Another Effort Raises Funds

In another effort, three CTC employees and an intern from the Johnstown, Pennsylvania office donated their time at the Tsunami Relief Jam, a fundraiser that was organized by a University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown professor and held at the Johnstown Brewing Company (JBC). Ryan Lantzy, Software Engineer; Jim Bilitski, Software Engineer; Brian Wechtenhiser, Systems Engineer, and Kyle Reasbeck, Mechanical Engineer intern supported the effort. Ryan operated the sound and light system, Jim played saxophone and trombone, Brian played drums, and Kyle played bass. Jim and Brian are regular musicians with Flood City Brass of Johnstown. A total of three bands performed, donating their time while the JBC collected donations at the door. Door prizes were awarded throughout the night, which were donated by local businesses. JBC also donated half of the sales from beverages that night.

Ryan said that they were happy to donate their time, adding, "We all had a lot of fun doing it and it was for such a good cause. All said and done, the event, which drew about 200 people throughout the night, raised approximately $1,000 to be donated to the American Red Cross for the Tsunami disaster."
