CTC Wins $65 Million Competition to Support the Air Force Advanced Power Technology Office

December 19, 2007

Johnstown, PA, December 19, 2007—Daniel R. DeVos, President & CEO of Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) today announced that CTC has been awarded a competitively won contract by the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) with a potential value of $65 million over five years.  The scope of this contract includes providing support to the AFMC through the Air Force Advanced Power Technology Office (APTO).  AFMC is responsible for all aspects of logistics, engineering, operations, and depot maintenance of Air Force weapon systems.

CTC is very pleased to have won this important contract that expands our leadership role in helping our nation and military move toward increased energy independence and security.  CTC distinguished itself from the competition through its sound technical approach; superior in-house capabilities; proven performance in research, development, testing, evaluation and sustainment of advanced power technology programs; and a superior overall past performance record.  All of these factors contributed to CTC receiving the highest confidence rating from the Air Force evaluation team,” said DeVos.

Specifically, CTC will provide research, development, test, evaluation, and sustainment support for APTO advanced power and energy projects, integrating, testing, evaluating and sustaining advanced power and energy technologies and alternative fuels into various Air Force platforms.  Examples of technologies include hybrid drive systems, fuel cells, alternative fuel formulations, solar power, biomass-to-energy systems, advanced battery storage devices, power conditioning systems and hydrogen powered systems.  Integration of these and other advanced power technologies into Air Force platforms will require CTC to coordinate and manage activities with various Department of Defense (DoD) and federal organizations, industry, academia, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), as well as development of prototype demonstration platforms.

The Air Force APTO, headquartered at Warner-Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, identifies, integrates and transitions advanced power technologies, alternative energy systems and alternative fuels technologies into the Air Force inventory through practical demonstration and validation of technologies in prototype, commercial or modified commercial off-the-shelf platforms.  APTO program objectives are to improve weapon system logistical and sustainment support, increase weapon system capabilities, increase fuel efficiency, reduce harmful emissions and reduce dependencies on foreign energy sources.  Examples of some of the technologies CTC will work on with the Air Force include Heavy-Duty Hybrid Drive Systems, fuel cell power systems, alternative fuel formulations, integration of solar power, biomass-to-energy systems, advanced battery storage devices, and hydrogen powered systems.  Additionally, CTC will provide technology roadmapping services to the APTO, providing the Air Force a clearer picture of the path toward energy independence and security, leveraging emerging, environmentally sound technologies.
