CTC’s experts are sought after on a world stage for their expertise and passion in their fields. Lynn Porta recently presented at the World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden. While Lynn is an Energy and Climate Analyst at Concurrent Technologies Corporation, she spoke at the conference on behalf of North American Youth Parliament for Water, for which she is a co-founder and served as the first American co-president.

Lynn participated in two different sessions at Stockholm World Water Week, across issues around groundwater, stakeholder collaboration, and water resilience. She spoke on her experience as an early-career water professional working on resilient and long-term water management policies. Her work at CTC expanded the profile of services offered under CTC’s Systems Outage and Recovery (SOAR) Exercises Capabilities to include water systems. Water supply disruption events caused by severe weather or malicious acts are increasing in occurrence and concern, according to the FBI and EPA[1]. The water-focused exercises under CTC’s SOAR efforts can better prepare communities, utilities, and specific water users to respond to these disruptions, and ensure their ability to continue their critical activities during the disruption itself.

Lynn observed that World Water Week’s focal theme of “Bridging Borders: Water for a Peaceful and Sustainable Future” highlighted the value of resilient water-based ecosystems and water-energy infrastructure projects for building peaceful, enduring communities and protecting environmental resources and services. However, conversations did not address the need for communities to mitigate against water disruptions as part of their resilience planning.  Lynn identified that CTC’s work in expanding the SOAR capabilities portfolio targets this missing but necessary conversation about water resilience.

In Lynn’s words: “Being in an international space like Stockholm World Water Week highlighted for me how the SOAR services CTC provides are truly tip-of-the-spear, especially for water services. These are conversations that more communities and countries should address to make sure that they are prepared to the eventuality of disruptions to water supplies, and CTC’s work building up water exercises in this vein for our clients puts us at the forefront of providing this insight for the industry.”

Congratulations, Lynn, on your contributions to this major international water conference and for representing CTC so well!
