Their presentations highlight what they learned at CTC
College students learn a lot about possible careers in class. But the hands-on experience they get in internships can solidify their decisions on the path they’d like to pursue when they enter the workforce.
Concurrent Technologies Corporation’s (CTC’s) Information Technologies (IT) interns participate in a “Technology: Behind the Scenes” program, where they work alongside more seasoned employees and get a better sense of what their career might look like.
“The internship experience offers benefits for all involved,” said Danielle Gerko, CTC Manager, Cyber Security Operations. “By applying their knowledge in a real-world setting, the students can determine whether their career aspirations are in line with what actually occurs in the workplace. And employees gain from the students’ fresh perspectives, which helps the team grow and become stronger overall.”
Danielle oversaw the work of David Truscello, a senior at St. Francis University. David previously completed an internship within Enterprise IT at CTC and focused on Enterprise Cybersecurity this summer. He presented information on several tools and technologies that can be used in this area.
Kathy West, CTC Manager, Enterprise IT Infrastructure, agrees with Danielle that internships are mutually beneficial. “The company definitely needs their help for daily operations, and the students are exposed to various areas of IT as well. In the few months they have been working with our team, they have done an awesome job supporting customers daily and exploring future technological opportunities.”
Kathy managed the work of Kainat Quraishy and Dylan Kundrod, both from Pitt-Johnstown. Kainat presented on Microsoft PowerApps/Automate and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how they can be used at CTC. Dylan focused on Microsoft Teams Calling and Video Conferencing technologies used at CTC.
